German Foundation Year: Description
In Germany, direct access to higher education is often linked to certain formal requirements. International students whose school-leaving certificate is not recognized as direct access to higher education must first obtain an additional qualification. This can be acquired at so-called "Studienkollegs": They offer special preparation for higher education, including necessary language skills and technical basics.
The "German Foundation Year" consists of three important sections:
- 1. German Intensive Course with us: Our goal is to prepare you intensively in terms of language. This first part of the program focuses on ensuring that you reach language level B1 by the end of the intensive course.
- 2. Preparatory College: After completing the language training, you will continue at the preparatory college (Studienkolleg). Here, you will complete your subject-specific training.
- 3. At the end of the preparatory college, the final examination “Feststellungsprüfung” (FSP) takes place. If you pass it successfully, you are eligible to study at a German university or college*.
*Please note: The selection of universities may be limited at some preparatory colleges. We are happy to provide personal advice on this matter.
We work closely with various Studienkollegs in Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia to enable you to start studying in Germany. Through this comprehensive preparation, we offer you the opportunity to improve your language skills, and to acquire important cultural and academic knowledge that will help you to find your way around the German higher education landscape. In this way, we create the ideal basis for your further academic and professional career in Germany.
